A Security Guard Falls Into Nightmare Before the End of His Shift

don’t blink—you’ll miss
something—

perhaps the night shower
that scattered worms and leaves onto a cloudy morning’s earth

or the white crinoline spread across
back roads when Queen Snow has returned

don’t blink—in this turbo world
you’ll fall asleep

a father—a lover—a son
and wake up a terrorist

stalked by the easiest solution to the meaning of security

this one and the next one break my heart -- violence in peaceful Canada.

Heh, you're back. I hope you had a good trip.

Canada's not so peaceful anymore. We daily lose soldiers in Afghanistan and our schools are way too often in lock-down because there was a weapon on school grounds.

There's always an easy answer to problems, or so it too often seems.

Helm.

I know.
The school shooting was on the news here too (all news is international anyway now.)
Our Government has refused to send soldiers to the South of Afghanistan, as have many European countries.
I think they are right: it may well be a counter-productive operation in the South, the way it is conducted. Creating more enemies by killing civilians again.
